Ryoku (Japanese kanji 力), comprised of individuals from various age groups, defies the notion that athletic achievement is only possible for the young. Each member showcases that age is just a number, and that determination and perseverance can lead to incredible feats.
As we push ourselves to reach new personal records and challenge societal stereotypes of the aging athlete, we also use our platform to inspire others to push their own boundaries, showing that it’s never too late to start pursuing a goal.
However, as we reflect on our journey and the sacrifices made to achieve success, we also ponder if the focused pursuit of a goal has a net positive impact in the larger context of life and love.
Nonetheless, Ryoku continues to inspire others, proving that the pursuit of excellence and the journey towards it is just as important as the destination.
Ryoku + Arc’teryx
As a running team, we embody the Arc’teryx athlete ethos of pushing boundaries to see what is possible. We reflect a curiosity about environments completely different from our normal training and racing grounds.
For us, our connection to a specific place and location provides the framework for growth and inspiration. In our pursuit of excellence, we embody the LIVE IT mentality, just like Colleen who has found purpose in seeking her potential on a mountain that has intrigued and called to her for years. Her FKT attempt is a logical step in her life, one that has been hallmarked by facing down fears as a means to live a purposeful life.
We demonstrate COMMIT as athletes from Minnesota, defying the general perceptions of mountain and FKT athletes, and raising the bar for what is possible for athletes from our region. Finally, as a team, we facilitate the LEAVE IT BETTER mentality by ensuring we respect and protect the environment that has given us so much.
